Finding the time to be active after becoming a new parent can sometimes be hard. We caught up with Yasmin, a mum of two, who told us how she got into walking.

“I was feeling sluggish, unfit and needed something I could do both on my own and with my new family. A friend told me about the Family Mile and I decided to give it a go with a group of mums and their children. It was a slow walk around Mote Park in Maidstone with reluctant toddlers, but it was wonderful.

We talked, we walked, and we sat down when needed. We all loved it, and it became a weekly activity for our group of new mums, trying to navigate parenthood.”

Fast forward a few years, and Yasmin now walks daily, incorporating it into her daily life by taking a longer walk to/from school, walking at lunchtime or going for a walk while the children attend clubs.

Yasmin told us “Often when I have something on my mind, I like to go out for a walk which helps me to relax, take in the surroundings, clear my head, and think it through.

My family now also happily walk with me. It’s a free and easy way to achieve daily activity together, and I would encourage anyone to give it a go. Do ten minutes or an hour. You might even find a Gruffalo!”

Thank you Yasmin for sharing your story.
