Children and Family Hubs and wellbeing centres are friendly places that welcome you and your children to:
- play
- learn
- meet new people
- make friends.
The aim of the groups and sessions is to give all children the best start in life and you as their parent or carer get the support and advice you need.
The groups and session are run by family solution workers and other partners including:
- health visitors
- midwifes
- Homestart
- Family Action.
At our Children and Family Hubs we offer:
- bookable sessions for parents and children with activities including baby groups and stay and play sessions
- support with parenting such as incredible baby years, Triple P parenting programme
- antenatal classes and baby clinics
- links with local schools and voluntary agencies
- information and advice about breastfeeding, speech and language, parenting, health issues and all difficult experiences that families with babies and young children often face
- information about other local services and activites that can help you and your family.

You must book in advance for all sessions
All baby groups and stay and play sessions will need to be booked each week. We are not able to book a spot for a course of sessions.
Book a session
To book a place you’ll need to:
- Sign in to your Medway Family Information Service account
- Register your family at the hub you want to attend sessions at
- Request a place on a session.

SEND Support
Medway Education and the SEND team are hosting a range of drop in sessions at family hubs for you to meet the team and learn more about our service.
At the sessions you’ll be able to:
- get advice if your child is struggling at school
- find support
- get general advice about SEND in Medway.
Social care’s Transition team will be there on the first Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday of each month
The Medway Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information, Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS) are also running a number of drop in information sessions at family hubs throughout the year.

Chatham sessions

- When: every Monday
- Time: 9.15am to 11.15am.
Strood sessions
- Location: Strood Children and Family Hub, Clifton Close, Strood, Kent, ME2 2HG
- When: every Tuesday
- Time: 1pm to 3pm.
Rainham sessions
- Location: Wayfield and Rainham Children and Family Hub, Wayfield Road, Chatham, Kent, ME5 0HH
- When: every Thursday
- Time: 1pm to 3pm.
Gillingham sessions
- Location: Gillingham Children and Family Hub, Woodlands Road, Gillingham, Kent, ME7 2BX
- When: every Friday
- Time: 10am to 12pm.

SENDIASS information sessions
Medway SENDIASS are running information sessions at family hubs throughout the year where you’ll be able to get information and advice around SEND.
You will not be able to use these sessions to complete any paperwork related to appeals or EHC needs assessments. For support with these, please contact the service by visiting the SENDIASS website.
Chatham Children and Family Hub sessions
- 29 October 2025 from 12.30pm to 2.30pm.
Wayfield and Rainham Children and Family Hub sessions
- 17 December from 12.30pm to 2.30pm.
Gillingham Children and Family Hub sessions
- 26 November from 10am to 12pm.

Midwives
When your pregnancy is confirmed, you’ll be given an appointment with a midwife.
Midwives provide antenatal and postnatal support including early bird and active birth sessions.

Health visitors
Health visitors work in the community. Their role is to improve the health and wellbeing of families and children in the first few years of life.
They may offer advice about health, immunisations, screening and reviews. This is to help parents prevent childhood illnesses.

Extra support
You can talk to a member of our team to see what support is available for your family. We can support you with parenting, getting a health visitor or midwife, child development and play. We can also help you find help from other services in the area.
Breastfeeding drop-ins
We run bump to breastfeeding drop-ins with Medway Community Healthcare. Find out more on Beside You Medway website.
Our hubs are supported by 9 children and family wellbeing centres which are based in primary schools. There is also work being done in the community and in people’s own homes.

We expect all parents or carers, staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
As part of our safeguarding policy, please do not use your mobile phone during sessions. This includes:
- talking
- texting
- social media
- emails

Little Chefs
We work in partnership with Medway Adult Education to deliver our Little Chefs cookery groups:
- 6-week free cookery course held at various venues across Medway
- aimed at families with children aged 2 to 4 years
- sessions include recipes, craft activities and stories
