We are fortunate to have several running groups around Medway which are open to all abilities, offering weekly sessions including beginner friendly ‘Couch to 5K’ programmes. Joining a local running group is a wonderful way to get fit, stay fit and meet other people in the local area.

Medway Mile 2023

The Medway Mile is the largest mass participation sports event in Medway, established in 2007 to mark the countdown to the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games. The Medway Mile has become hugely successful as a landmark event on Medway’s festival calendar. The 2023 event will take place on Friday 21 July 2023 at Medway Park and Great Lines in Gillingham.

Medway Fit

A friendly Medway based running and fitness community group. All sessions are free! They have a broad mix of participants from complete beginners, fun runners, people that run to lose weight, get fit, burn off nervous energy, to win medals, to keep sane, to break records, run to eat, eat to run, to avoid doing the dishes, all the way through to experienced and seasoned runners.

parkrun

Saturday morning parkruns take place across Medway every Saturday at 9am. Facilitated by a host of friendly volunteers, the 5k distances are a great chance to take in Medway’s beautiful parks and open spaces. On Sunday mornings, there are 2k junior Parkruns for children aged four to fourteen. The parkrun events are positive, welcoming, and inclusive experiences where there is no time limit, and no one finishes last. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Medway Sport’s Running Groups

Supervised by Medway Sport running coaches, these running groups are available at Medway Park and Strood Sports Centre. They cater for all abilities from beginners to experienced runners.

  • Strood Run Club: Strood Sports Centre. Every Tuesday from 9.15am to 10am
  • Strood Couch to 5K: Strood Sports Centre. Every Thursday from 10.30am to 11.30am.

These sessions are part of the sports centre membership offer if it includes classes. The non-member price is £4 per person (plus non-members admission fee at Medway Park).
