ESCAPE-pain for knees and hips
This six week course is a group exercise and education programme for people with chronic joint pain that integrates educational self-management and coping strategies with an exercise regimen individualised for each participant. The course helps people understand their condition, teaches them simple things they can help themselves with, and takes them through a progressive exercise programme so they learn how to cope with pain better.
The ESCAPE pain programme runs twice a week and involves a combination of education, exercise and specialist advice from a physiotherapist.

- Churchill Centre, Aylesford
- Gravesham Community Hospital, Gravesend

Escape pain criteria:
- Patients over 45 years of age with chronic joint pain Hip and Knee (at least 3 months’ duration).
- Clinical diagnosis of osteoarthritis.
- No contraindications to carrying out a regular exercise programme.
- Would benefit from a group-based rehabilitation programme with exercise.
Independently mobile and able to participate in a group-based exercise programme with minimal supervision
