The “Small Steps, Big Changes” Program
SSBC in Medway is designed to support adults in becoming more physically active. It offers practical ideas and knowledge to improve health and wellbeing through engaging sessions. Participants can learn simple and achievable ways to implement changes and connect with local community activities.
Small Steps, Big Changes is an entry level course for adults of all ages and abilities.
This course aims to support everyone with practical ideas and knowledge to become more physically active throughout life.
Through engaging sessions, you’ll learn simple and achievable ways to improve your health and wellbeing.
This course covers:
- behaviour change
- reducing sedentary behaviour
- being more active in Medway
- free local digital resources
- implementing change and more.
The programme also raises awareness of local community activities. This gives you the opportunity to connect with providers and take advantage of what Medway has to offer.

Derry
Derry has a background in fitness, specialising in Obesity & Diabetes; Cancer Prehab & Rehab; One to One Lifestyle Changes counselling.
Derry also facilitates for the Small Steps Big Changes (SSBC) & Protect your Upper Limbs and has been delivering the Healthy Way programme since January 2016.
Since then, Derry has delivered to various groups both face to face and virtually.

Clare
My name is Clare and I work with the Public Heath Physical Activity Team delivering Small Steps Big Changes courses.
I have danced since I was two years old and I run Zumba and Zumba Gold classes in the community across Medway, Maidstone and Gravesend, sharing my passion for dance and music, which is a great way to stay fit and feel good from the inside out!
I love running too, five London Marathons and many half marathons. Once, I went for a Sunday morning jog, got a bit lost and came home 13 miles later!
I have two dogs who love wood walks, rain or shine!
I have lived my life in Medway and I feel very strongly about keeping people connected!

Luke joined the team in 2025 after completing his diploma in exercise and fitness.
Luke has a passion to help people with chronic health issues after incorporating daily exercise and healthy eating into his life to manage his own health.
In his spare time he enjoys going to the gym and skateboarding
