Historic Rochester lies on the banks of the River Medway and boasts a castle and cathedral, as well as a charming town centre with plenty of characterful buildings and independent shops, cafes and restaurants. The river loops around Rochester just moments from the town centre, and there are several excellent places to walk and enjoy the views across the water.

This Active 10 walking route is 1.1 miles long in its entirety, consisting of between one and two complete Active 10s if you walk the whole route. However, feel free to walk as little or as much of the route as you feel able to.

Starting on the corner of the High Street and Boley Hill, head along Boley Hill towards the castle and then turn right onto Baker’s Walk. Emerging onto the Esplanade, cross over the road and walk through the gardens before crossing back over the road and walking across Churchfields from one corner to the other. Turn left onto Backfields and then left again onto St. Margaret Street, and continue back to rejoin Boley Hill close to the starting point of the walk.

Why not give this Active 10 walking route a try next time you’re in Rochester city centre? Whether it’s during your lunchbreak from work, or taking a break from a shopping trip, this Active 10 walking route is sure to help you move towards a healthier lifestyle.
