This week is Salt Awareness Week 2022.  A week to shine a spotlight on a simple yet effective approach that we can all take to improve our health – by shaking the salt habit!


Salt can damage our health and can be linked to serious health conditions from stroke to heart failure.

Below are some top tips from our local Mason Mile group, to help you reduce your salt intake, focusing on recipes with more flavour, and less salt:

  • Learn how to read labels and understand which foods are high in salt. This can help lower salt intake while you’re eating at home and when you’re eating out.
  • Replace salt with chilli, citrus, fresh herbs, garlic, black pepper, and spices.
  • Cut back on sauces such as soy sauce, ketchup and salad dressings which can contain lots of hidden salt.
